Some Facts about L.M.S. Compound 1102
It was at a Miniature Railway in India
Laid down in the garden of Mr.R.Horsefield’s residence at Jhansi, India, is a 91/4 inch gauge line known as “The Indian Mid-land and operated by him fot the benfit of the G.I.P Railway staff and their children. Mr.R. horsefield is a district superintendent of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway.
A article that I have shows for sale as a 101/4 gauge L.M.S Compound 4-4-0 (Named as Maid Marion” orginlly built to H.Greenly’s design in 91/4 gauge by Bassett-Lowkee 1925/1928 (unable to verify this)
It is believed that this engine spent much of it’s first 20 years spent in India.
In 1947 when it was acquired by the Hunstanton Pier Co and used in the film Barnacle Bill (Starring Alex Guiness)
In the early 1970’s it was to Hayle Towans Railway.
This Loco was up for Auction 5 October 1979 by H.Lane & son Plymouth
Its next owner was a Mr.H.Reed who converted it to 101/4 gauge for his railway at Clissold Park and Casiobury Park Watford then named Maid Marion.
Some when in the 1990s the locomotive came to Infield
